Meso is made by Linmi. This policy explains what Meso keeps on your Mac, when it goes online, and what it sends.
In short:
- Your keystrokes and clicks are handled only on this Mac. Keys are counted, never recorded: Meso doesn’t know what you type.
- Usage stats and device records are stored encrypted on this Mac.
- Meso has no accounts, no analytics and no ads, and sells no data.
What Meso keeps on your Mac
Data lives in ~/Library/Application Support/Meso/ and isn’t uploaded.
Usage stats (encrypted): clicks, scrolling and keystrokes per device, per day and per hour, split by the app in front, kept for up to two years. For keyboards, how many times each key was pressed — never characters, their order or their timing. Nothing is counted while you type a password (when the system’s Secure Input is on). Keystroke counting can be turned off in Settings.
Device records (encrypted): the devices you’ve connected, their battery and when they were around.
File transfer history (encrypted): names of files sent between your computers.
Settings (plain files): names you gave your devices, button mappings, app and website profiles, Scene Recipes, custom actions, cable records, paired computers and the like.
Encryption is AES-256-GCM with a key kept in the macOS Keychain, usable only on this Mac. API keys for AI services and the identity key for multi-computer use are kept in the Keychain too.
When Meso goes online
Updates: Meso checks GitHub for new versions now and then and downloads them from there. The check sends no system information, and you can turn automatic checks off in Settings.
Device pictures: the first time Meso shows a device model, it downloads its product picture. That request tells the image server your IP address and the device model.
AI features and read-aloud: only when you press a key or button bound to one.
- Translate, polish: sends the text you selected, or the words you just dictated.
- Screen text: text is recognized on this Mac; “Translate screen” sends only the recognized text, never the screenshot.
- Read aloud: sends the text to be read.
- To whom: by default, free translation uses Microsoft Translator and read-aloud uses Microsoft’s online voices. In Settings you can switch to Google Translate, OpenAI, DeepSeek, a server of your own, or Codex on your computer (which connects to OpenAI with your account); read-aloud can also use the Mac’s own voices, fully offline. The content goes straight to that service and is handled under its own privacy policy.
- Meso never sends clipboard contents, screenshots or recordings to an AI service.
Multiple computers: off by default. Once on, Meso looks for your other computers only on the local network, announcing itself by your computer’s name. Every connection is end-to-end encrypted, only computers confirmed with a six-digit pairing code can talk to each other, and no server is involved. What’s shared is the screen layout, the clipboard (which you can turn off) and files you send — not keystrokes or mouse movements. Clipboard items marked by a password manager are never sent.
Beyond that, Meso only opens web pages in your browser when you click a link.
System permissions Meso uses
- Input Monitoring, Accessibility: recognizing devices, running remaps and gestures, counting usage, reading selected text.
- Screen Recording: only for screen text.
- Automation: reading the domain of the browser’s front tab, for website profiles; only the domain is kept.
- Bluetooth: battery levels of other makers’ mice, pairing remotes.
- Local Network: multiple computers.
- Notifications: battery and cable alerts.
Meso doesn’t use your Mac’s microphone. A voice remote’s audio goes to the “Meso Microphone” input live, only while you hold its voice button, and is neither kept nor sent.
What Meso doesn’t do
- No accounts; it doesn’t collect your name, email or other personal details.
- No analytics, ads or tracking.
- No crash reports for now. If they come, they’ll be an option you can turn off, without anything you typed, and this page will say so.
Deleting your data
Quit Meso, then delete these to remove everything it keeps:
~/Library/Application Support/Meso/~/Library/Caches/Meso/~/Library/Preferences/ac.meso.app.plist- Keychain items whose names start with
ac.meso.app
Changes
We may update this policy. The new version is posted on this page with its date.
